I adore period dramas. Really anything on BBC and Masterpiece Theater gets me super excited so when I saw one of my friends up on Facebook talking about this series I had never seen I was intrigued. That first photo below was enough to get me hooked I tell you!
I looked "The Paradise" up and saw that it was a series with two seasons that ran back in 2012-2013. I wish it had gone for a third season I loved it so much.
It's a love story set in England's first department store in the 1870s but I think it's so much more than that. It's the story of how a girl finds love but also finds her own path in a world driven by men and the games they play to get what they want. She becomes her own woman and gets the guy!
Official description:
Order the carriage, raise your credit limit, and hurry to town: The Paradise is open for business!
Denise Lovett (Joanna Vanderham) is the bright-eyed country girl who finds more than just shop-girl work when she brings her clever ideas and ambition to The Paradise, a glamorous, Victorian-era department store. John Moray (Emun Elliott) is the store’s dashing and enigmatic owner, an entrepreneur with more than his share of passion -- and secrets.
I'm pretty sure this is not the most accurate historical drama but that doesn't really bother me.
I like a little fantasy mixed into my period dramas. This series was such eye candy from the cast to the gorgeous costumes everyone would wear and "The Paradise"! I wish we had a department store today that is like it. The way they would weave stories around the products to literally seduce the customers into buying them...so delicious!
Ah, the two main characters...true love. How gorgeous is that bustle dress?! As much as I love the Victorian Era I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to live back then what with how women were treated and how long it must have took to get into a dress like that.
Whew! It's one thing to dress up in a period costume like this in today's time, but it must have been so uncomfortable to wear something like that all day long. I still wouldn't mind trying on one at least once in my life. Incredibly dreamy looking!!
