let's get psychedelic...

Just discovered this awesome group via the Coachella page on Refinery 29 and I'm totally loving it! Gosh, I hope I can make it there one day...Coachella would be awesome. Have any of you been to Coachella this year? Share what bands you've listened to at Coachella or bands/songs you'd like to see on our Monday Music post.

Here's their official music video.

And here they are at Coachella!

Tame Impala is a band from Perth, Australia. It is the psychedelic rock project of Kevin Parker. They are signed to Modular Records. The band came to prominence in 2010 with the release of their debut album Innerspeaker.  Their name refers to the impala, a medium sized antelope. They like to see themselves as "a steady flowing psychedelic groove rock band that emphasizes dream-like melody."

it's a kate spade day....

It's a Kate Spade Day...really though what day couldn't be a Kate Spade day...I adore all their fun fashions and bright colorful offerings, don't you?

Pinks, yellows, stripes, fun prints...they're all that and more! I've often thought of Kate Spade as Margarita Bloom's bigger sister since we share a love for bright, brilliant colors and everything and anything fun!....lol...

Have a beautiful Sunday lovelies!!

happy birthday ella...

Happy Birthday to the great and talented Ella Fitzgerald....

Ella Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 – June 15, 1996), also known as the "First Lady of Song", "Queen of Jazz", and "Lady Ella", was an American jazzvocalist with a vocal range spanning three octaves (D3 to D6). She was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing and intonation, and a "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing.

strawberries, bananas, kiwi...oh my!

Monday, April 22, 2013

Yummy yums! Banana, Strawberry and Kiwi!
Why are they SO good for you you ask?

Bananas have...
467mg of potassium per one banana which is heart healthy.
They contain fructooligosaccharide....say what!? Basically, it's  a prebiotic substance (one which encourages probiotics, the friendly bacteria in the digestive system) so it helps you get more calcium.
They contain tryptophan, serotonin and norepinephrine which helps get rid of depression and makes you feel relaxed...yep, I said it. They help relax you.
A medium sized banana has 109 calories estimated.
They prevent macular degeneration..that means better eye sight.
They alleviate ulcers and heartburn. (On a side note, if you ever get heartburn, try fresh raw garlic in a salad or freshly made garlic toast...trust me...it works and gets rid of heartburn better than any pill can.)

Strawberries have...
Lots and lots of vitamin C.
Are low in calories like 52 calories for a half a cup.
...high amounts of phenolic flavonoid phyto-chemicals called anthocyanins and ellagic acid which may have benefits against cancer, aging, inflammation and neurological diseases.
....vitamin A, vitamin E and health promoting flavonoid poly phenolic antioxidants such as lutein, zea-xanthin, and beta-carotene in small amounts that protect against free radicals.
....potassium, manganese, fluorine, copper, iron and iodine.

Kiwi's have...
....an excellent source of antioxidant vitamin-C; providing about 154% of the DRI (daily-recommended intake)...Consumption of foods rich in vitamin-C helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful free radicals.
Research studies have shown that certain substances in kiwi-fruit functions as blood thinner function similar to aspirin; thus, it helps prevent clot formation inside the blood vessels and protect from stroke and heart-attack risk.  Kiwi-fruit seeds are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids which is oh, so good for your pretty little heart.
One Kiwi is only 25 calories!
Fresh kiwi fruit is a very rich source of heart-healthy electrolyte "potassium." 100 g contains 312 mg or 7% of daily-recommended levels of this electrolyte.

Oy, this is all good news! Besides, they taste absolutely delicious! Go get some fruit for yourselves peeps. The Daily Nibble approves. *wink wink*

fashionably mint...

Saturday, April 20, 2013

Ever since I dropped seven sizes (OMG, I still can't believe it!!) due to changing my eating habits/exercise I've been on the hunt for fashion...fashion...fashion!! lol... Getting healthy really renewed my interest in clothing especially when trying on clothes....which is no longer a pain in the patootie...literally. You know what I mean!  Endless trying on of clothes, pants, and the like that just don't seem to fit me...but now, that's all a thing of the past.  *wink wink*

I love this store Love Culture that a friend introduced to me, not only does it have fun fashions but it's great for the budget conscious too. Here are some of my favorite minty inspired fashion picks above! I know mint is so in right now, but come on, shouldn't mint be in ALL the time? It's a happy color. *wink*

nutella....the food of the gods...

Nutella, the food of the gods....oh, man, someone bring me a jar or two of this right now!!! giggle...

Did you know... the Nutella spread was first created by Pietro Ferrero, the founder of the Ferrero company, in the backroom of a pastry shop in 1944?

Born in 1898, Ferrero began his career as a pastry maker in Dogliani. He then moved to Turin, where he opened his own pastry shop. During World War Two, Ferrero was forced to move his pastry shop to Alba. Together with his wife Piera, Ferrero himself began experimenting with different recipes. As chocolate was not widely available then due to the war rationing of cocoa, Ferrero used hazelnuts instead. (Hazelnuts were in abundance in Italy's Piedmont region.) By the end of the war, Ferrero's efforts had paid off with the invention of a chocolate-like paste that mixed roasted hazelnuts with cocoa butter and vegetable oil.

so stacked and sweet....

Waffles...I like a stack of them with butter, fruit and delicious syrup drizzled all over every inch of them...oh, don't forget the whipped creme. This is one truly decadent treat.

What's up with that word anyway? Waffles! Where the heck did that come from? The word "Waffle" appeared in the English Language in 1725 & is derived from the Dutch word "wafel" derived from Middle Dutch "Wafele".

The word may have appeared in 1725 but you can actually trace them alllllllllll the way back to Ancient Greece...hmmm, do you think you can trace everything back to Ancient Greece? You just might! lol... The Athenians (Ancient Greece peeps!)  cooked obelios....let's say it again with emphasis...obelios! which were flat cakes between two metal plates — over burning embers.

Did you know waffle irons were engraved with coats of arms, symbols to brand the waffles & baked treats? In medieval France, an entire guild was established in 1270 to train the vendors who sold waffles on the street

So Waffles were so easy to make and consisted of simply flour & water that they actually became a staple of country cooking! Of course, the  wealthier peasants added honey, eggs and aromatized wine to power up on their waffles & make them even tastier. Ooh, la, la! Fancy smancy waffles!

The delicacy, according to Geoffrey Chaucer, made for an excellent means of seduction.

"He sent her sweetened wine and well-spiced ale/ And waffles piping hot out of the fire,"

the English poet wrote of courtship in the 14th century in The Canterbury Tales. Oh, how romantic.... *wink wink* I do love bread....and waffles are just as good as any sourdough, whole grain or good ole' French bread to this girl! Make a picnic with ALL types of breads and toppings & you've got me hook, line and sinker!  giggle...

Here's a recipe to get you started on whipping up some waffles!!  Happy Nibbling! *wink*

are you a betty or a veronica?

Monday, April 15, 2013

I'm a total Betty! Hahaha, don't you just love these awesome comics from the 40's. "Archie" of course! They're so cute and the illustrations always bring a smile to my pretty profile. I keep seeing them pop up all over my tumblr, pinterest and facebook lately and had to do a post about them.

I mean, how could you not? They're adorable.

The main characters are fictional featuring teenagers Archie AndrewsBetty CooperVeronica LodgeReggie Mantle and Jughead Jones

The characters were created by publisher/editor John L. Goldwater, written by Vic Bloom and drawn by Bob Montana. They were based in part on people met by Goldwater "in the Midwest" during his travels throughout the United States while looking for jobs and places to stay.

John Goldwater, inspired by the popular Andy Hardy movies starring Mickey Rooney, wanted to create a comic about a normal person to whom readers could relate. He created "America's newest boy friend", Archibald "Chick" Andrews. In Pep Comics #22, December 1941, writer Vic Bloom and artist Bob Montana published Archie Andrews' first adventure, beginning with "Chick" showing off for his new neighbor, Betty Cooper. Ah, hello Betty!

Although the comic started in the 1940s, it has changed over the years to stay current with the times, said writer and artist Dan Parent. One example is the introduction in 2010 of openly gay character Kevin Keller, who first appeared in Veronica #202 Equality for all...even in comics.

In February 2010, Archie Comics partnered with A Squared Entertainment (A2) and POW! Entertainment to create Stan Lee Comics print and digital line.[8] Archie Comics announced at the New York Comic Con in October 2011 that its superhero line will return as an all-digital line under a subscription model with back issues archive access.

Don't you just love Stan Lee? That guys is amaze-balls.
So, are you a Betty....or a Veronica? *wink wink*

old world flat bread...my new favorite bread...

So as well as being a beauty potion goddess...*wink wink* I also dabble a bit in the kitchen. Seems ever since I started to eat healthier, I've been cooking a lot more. Trying to replace my processed foods intake with healthier fresher foods like the veggies below. Aren't they gorgeous? So bright and colorful!! I'm addicted to those grape tomatoes I tell you, addicted!

Sorry for the quality of the pics...they could be SO much better. I need me a new camera STAT. lol..

It was temptation at first sight...as soon as I saw those yummy flatbreads I thought boy, that looks GOOD. I've got to get those. They're calling my name... so I skipped over to them and quickly grabbed two bags before anyone else could gobble them up. You never know who might be lurking in your grocery store waiting to buy all the flat breads. Hmm, that might be me. ...giggle...

Here's a few pics of what I whipped up. Just a basic flat bread sandwich with lots and lots of veggies, mozzarella, seasoned chicken, roasted tomatoes,  lettuce and sour creme! It was quite tasty & SO easy to make.

The best part was warming up that yummy mouth watering flat bread. Just a couple seconds in the microwave & it was warm & so ready to be nibbled on or I'm sure you could toast it up in the frying pan too. Hmmm, something to try next time!

Did you know this about Flat Bread?
Flatbread was already known in Ancient Egypt and Sumer ("land of the civilized kings" or "native land"...Sumer was an ancient civilization and historical region in southern Mesopotamia.)  In ancient Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq) the Sumerians discovered that edible grains could be mashed into a paste and then baked/hardened into a flat bread.

Flour and water Flatbreads baked on a fire-heated rock have been a staple for much of humanity for the past 5,000 years. In Mexico it’s the tortilla; for the Scots it is oatcake; in India, chapatti; in China they call it po bin; the Amerindians made johnnycake; the Norwegians, flattbrod; in Ethiopia, injera; in Israel, matzoh.

I just love eating healthier...it really gives you a sense of accomplishment to know you made what you're eating and that it's healthy for you and that it tastes good too. haha, it's got to taste good or you won't want to eat it and then what's the point! *wink*

 Happy Nibbling!

macaron...not macaroon...

Yep, I've been spelling it wrong all this time.
It's macaron...not macaroon.
A macaron is a sweet meringue-based
confectionery made with eggs, icing sugar,
granulated sugar, almond powder or ground
almond, and food coloring.
It can be filled with jam, ganache, or buttercreme

Did you know some have traced its French debut
back to the arrival of Catherine de' Medici's Italian
pastry chefs whom she brought with her in 1533
upon marrying Henry II of France!

Now, someone go get me a pack of these sweet treats. *wink*
